What you need to know about the Battle of Springfield

The Battle of Springfield occurred in August 1986 (at least in publishing terms) in issues 49-50 of the comic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The US town of Springfield was Cobra’s place of origin and, until the creation of Cobra Island, Cobra’s primary HQ and home base. Cobra had complete control over the town it’s population. Through a series of extraordinary events the Joe RIPCORD, disguised as Zartan, was bought to Springfield, the location of which he promptly revealed to his fellow Joes. Still smarting from their recent stinging strategic defeat over Cobra Island, the Joe’s were keen to deal a blow to Cobra and quickly mounted a major operation to capture the town. But things did not go as planned....
