Monday Minion: Scar-face

Scar-face was one of the early Cobra characters from the G.I. Joe comics (the character was also interesting for never being part of the original toy line). In the comics he did not survive to see the Battle of Springfield,  but one of mini heads I have on the way for Project Springfield has some distinctive facial scars, so Scar-face may just live to fight another day.

1st Minis

I received the first minis for Project Springfield today - two packs of Copplestone Castings Men In Black figures. With some head swaps I will be using these as a squad of Crimson Guardsmen in mufti.

Beware the Snakes

First of my SNAKE armour off the production line. These will be ‘counts as’ Guardian light walkers from the Brit K47 list. I plan to use ‘counts as’ Brit units for most my Cobra troops, rather than try to create units, so as to maintain game balance with my opponent. The match is not perfect, as the Gaurdian has a hmg as well as the flamethrower and mmg on a SNAKE - but as the Guardian can only fire one weapon at a time it still works ok having only one gun arm. I plan on playing the SNAKE gun as being able to fire normal bullets (mmg) or amour-periencing rounds (hmg). I printed these ones in blue as a homage to the original toy and the differentiate them from the other SNAKE version I will be using. [NB: SNAKE 3D files are from Jabberwock, printed at 40% scaling]

Figuring out 3D Printing

This one is attempt no.5 and I think I am finally happy. Now to start ramping-up production. For those interested in such things, I am using a Cocoon Create Touch (which I understand is a Wanhao Duolicator i3 rebadged for the Australian Market) for this project.

Credit Where Credit is Due

3D printing is going to be critical to this project as the only way to get most of the vehicles I need in 28mm is by 3D printing them. Since I have no CAD skills, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to 'Jabberwock' over on thingiverse who has made freely available models of many Joe and Cobra vehicles (and he wont even accept tips). https://www.thingiverse.com/Jabberwock/designs
